Since installing GS-Calc v21.1.2, there is a 3-5 second delay in the start of the program’s execution. I am curious if any other user(s) are experiencing the same symptom.
This version introduced Installation (command line) switches. I didn’t use any switches, and I wonder if some switch might be required. I also tried executing GS-Calc without the Settings.xml file to see if that helped. It did not.
Installing v21.2 did not fix the delay. I just curious if I might be doing something wrong or if this is the new norm.
Although I sent you some details via mail with links to MS help articles, I’ll also post some general information here just in case.
Both programs should start in a fraction of a second. Perhaps slightly more for older hdd drives if they have their read-write heads “parked” - 1-2 s.
Only one such a case was reported around a year ago and only the Windows reinstallation eventually solved this so most likely it concerned the disk (as other programs of the user have other symptoms as well).
I believe some seconds delays could also occur if Windows at same time is performing some massive spooling due to some other program activity or one of those pending system updates.
One can also check the Task Manager and the processor/disk transfer/memory usage to verify what the problem can be.
Thank you for all your impeccable support! The information in your email and the reply to my post are helpful and informative!
As stated, “GS-Base and GS-Calc both should start in a fraction of a second”. However, I am experiencing GS-Base executing almost immediately, but, GS-Calc having a 3-5 second delay. This difference in execution times is why I am questioning it.
I will continue to “troubleshoot” the symptoms and keep you posted on my findings.
Thank you, Kind Sir, for your help!
If you’ve been installing many versions over time, just in case you can also use the “unregister scripting interfaces” and “(…) gsc filetype”. Finally you can fully uninstall it using either the “Settings > Uninstall” command or the system Windows App control panel. Then you can try re-installing it also in a different location and/or using a different (Windows) user account.
Nevertheless, first of all please check in the Task Manager which processes are relatively active during these 3-5s.
