The “freeze” functionality available in older versions was replaced by multiple pane views. It seems this is a more flexible solution. The panes are opened/closed e.g. by dragging the splitter lines. By default horz. adjacent panes have synchronized rows and vert. adjacent panes have synchronized columns. (One can override this and create any synchronization patterns for all available 100 panes for each worksheet. The “View > Pane Layout Templates” commands enable you to make it all automatic.)
